LPG cylinders are safe when handled properly, but improper use can lead to serious accidents. Follow these essential safety guidelines to ensure the safe handling, storage, and use of cooking gas cylinders in Abuja and Lagos.

Before Using a Gas Cylinder

  • Always inspect the cylinder for damage, rust, or dents before accepting delivery from DEER Nigeria.
  • Verify that the cylinder has a valid test date and certification stamp.
  • Check that the valve is properly sealed and the safety cap is in place.
  • Ensure you're using the correct cylinder size for your appliance (3kg, 6kg, 12.5kg, or 50kg).

Safe Handling Practices

  • Always transport cylinders in an upright position.
  • Use a cylinder trolley for moving heavy cylinders (12.5kg and 50kg).
  • Never roll, drag, or drop cylinders.
  • Keep cylinders away from heat sources, open flames, and direct sunlight.
  • When connecting a cylinder, use the correct regulator and check for gas leaks using soapy water.

Important Safety Warning

If you smell gas, immediately turn off the cylinder valve, open windows and doors for ventilation, avoid using electrical switches or naked flames, and evacuate the area. Call DEER Nigeria support immediately at +234 807 900 9709.

Proper Storage Guidelines

  • Store cylinders in a well-ventilated area away from electrical sources.
  • Keep cylinders upright and secured to prevent falling.
  • Maintain a safe distance from flammable materials.
  • Store empty and full cylinders separately and clearly labeled.
  • Do not store cylinders in basements, confined spaces, or escape routes.

Regular Maintenance

  • Check connections and hoses regularly for wear and tear.
  • Replace rubber hoses every two years or as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Have your gas appliances serviced annually by a qualified technician.
  • Replace regulators every five years or as recommended by the manufacturer.

In case of a gas leak or fire:

  1. Turn off the cylinder valve if it's safe to do so.
